Former Delta mayor and current city council member Lois Jackson is endorsing Tanya Corbet, saying Corbet represents what is best about the community. Former Delta South MLA Val Roddick is also endorsing Corbet.

The Tsawwassen First Nation’s Tanya Corbet is seeking the nomination for the Delta Conservatives in the upcoming federal election.

“I would be honoured to represent the community of Delta and advocate for our prosperity and the preservation of the quality of life that we enjoy. I am passionate for my community and have dedicated much of my life to enhance community projects and organizations. And I am always amazed by the strong connection of community members to support one another in Delta. I would like to take my passion and level of commitment to the federal stage.” said Corbet, who is officially launching her bid at Tsawwassen Springs later this afternoon.

Corbet is a former council member of the TFN government but did seek re-election this year. Her community involvement includes being a member of Reach Child Youth Development Society board, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation board as well as a member of the B.C. Capacity Initiative Council. She also served as vice-chair of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University board and was on the B.C. Treaty Commission.

Angelina Ireland has also made public her intention to seek the nomination for the Delta Conservatives.

The party still has to set a date for the Delta nomination meeting but it’s expected to be announced shortly.

The NDP, Greens and People’s Party of Canada have yet to nominate candidates in Delta.

The Delta riding is currently held by Liberal Carla Qualtrough, a key member of Justin Trudeau’s cabinet.

The 2015 election for the newly reconfigured riding, which combined North Delta and South Delta for the first time in a quarter-century, saw newcomer Qualtrough beat Conservative incumbent Kerry-Lynne Findlay by more than 9,000 votes. It remains to be seen if the Conservatives can reverse that fall, especially in South Delta, which had been a Conservative stronghold. Delta in the last election had among the highest voter turnouts at around 75 per cent.

The election will be held Oct. 21.
