The website for Heather Leung – the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Burnaby North-Seymour – has been taken down.
It’s an interesting turn of events considering the controversy during the past week about if the Conservatives would re-open the issue of abortion. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is anti-abortion rights, but has claimed the party won’t re-open the debate. Basically, he’s saying “trust me” and a lot of people are calling baloney on that.
Leung’s website - in a “statement of principles” – read like this: “Base (sic) on my conviction of my Christian faith, I believe life begins at conception. I belief the life span of every person is in God’s hand. Therefore, I am against abortion and medically assisted suicide.” (There is a screenshot attached to this post.)
So with this abortion controversy raging, it’s interesting that Leung has suddenly removed the website, although perhaps it’s just standard practice after the nomination is over.
I am only left to speculate because Leung has refused to return the NOW’s messages during the past few weeks to talk about her campaign. Normally, candidates are begging the media for coverage, but Leung doesn’t seem to want to talk or be accountable for her views on the issues. According to Star Vancouver, Leung didn’t return their calls and messages either.
Leung has a lot to explain, including her views on LGBTQ rights.
It’s a bad look for candidates to look too scared to answer media questions, but that’s a common campaign theme with the Conservatives – attack the media as much as possible. Heck, it worked for Trump.
