Clay Stevenson made 34 saves, and five different teammates of his scored goals as the Coquitlam Express defeated the Cowichan Valley Capitals, 5-0, Saturday in Cowichan.

It was Stevenson’s third shutout of the season, and Coquitlam’s seventh straight victory.

The visitors, who were relieved of having to play back-to-back games when their game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, scheduled for Friday, was postponed because of ammonia leak in that team’s arena, led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 going into the third.

Greg Lapointe, Steven Bellini, Joshua Wildauer, Tyler Schleppe and Danny Pearson scored for the Express. Two of those goals came on power plays.

The win kept Coquitlam atop the BC Hockey League standings with 38 points in 23 games. That’s one better than the Penticton Vees, who’ve also played 23 games.

The Express are in Powell River this afternoon for a game against the Kings.
