Both teams from British Columbia will play each other in a tie breaker this morning to determine which will move on to the championship pool at the 2020 Canadian junior men’s curling championships in Langley.

The extra match was necessitated when the Royal City Curling Club’s team skipped by Coquitlam’s Hyato Sato was defeated by Alberta 8-5 in Tuesday’s final draw..

Earlier in the day, British Columbia #2, that is skipped by Johnson Tao of Richmond and includes Port Moody’s Connor Kent at second, defeated Alberta, 5-4.

The results of those two matches meant both B.C. teams and Alberta finished round robin play with three wins and three losses. As they also shared 1-1 records in head-to-head play against each other, shootout scores in the pre-game draws to determine hammer gave Alberta third place in Pool A and set up the showdown between Tao and Sato.

Sato’s rink, which is comprised of fellow Tri-City curlers Joshua Miki, Matthew McCrady and Jacob Umbach, has lost three straight games after winning its first three.
