Burnaby Mounties seek help cramming cruiser for food bank

Burnaby Mounties and transit cops will be at Metrotown mall trying to cram a police cruiser full of donated food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Saturday (Dec. 14).

“As we approach the holiday season, these food banks are under even more pressure than usual to have items of food for those in need,” states a Burnaby RCMP press release.

Each week, more than 28,000 people access the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and a quarter of those are children and young people, according to the release.

Officers will be set up by the Kingsway entrance of the mall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday collecting non-perishable food items as well as grocery gift cards and cash.

Officers will also be stationed inside the main entrance to Superstore.

The items most needed by the Greater Vancouver Food Bank now are:

  • Low sodium canned salmon
  • Canned beans
  • Canned vegetables and fruits
  • Canned chili
  • Baby products (formula, baby food, diapers)

Other important staples include:

  • Natural peanut butter
  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Couscous
  • Brown rice
  • Barley
  • Oats
  • Canned chicken
  • Canned turkey
