Enhancing life through creativity and expression.

That’s what a new arts and crafts program offered by IMPACT Parkinson’s is aiming to do – for people who have Parkinson’s and for their family and friends.

A press release notes that IMPACT Parkinson’s, an incorporated non-profit society, offers programs that focus on “mind, body and soul” for people with Parkinson’s – from exercise and socio-cultural activities to speech language therapy and special workshops and events.

The release notes that not only do the arts help to enhance life, art making can also be used therapeutically to address specific symptoms of Parkinson’s.

“Like Parkinson’s, our fighters are complex – so our programs take a progressive approach by focusing on merging mind, body and soul to drive a happy, healthier life,” said founder Robyn Murrell.

The new art program is coming about with support from a Rotary Club of New Westminster donation.

It involves three separate workshops at IMPACT Parkinson’s Sapperton premises:

Exploring Creativity using Collage/Mixed Media:

Tatiana A. Bobko leads this session on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. It costs $30.

Poppy Felting:

Anne Whitmore of The Poppy Project will lead this session on Friday, Oct. 18 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. It’s free.

Introduction to Neurographica:

Alina Smolyansky leads this session in neurographica (which, in a nutshell, is a method of drawing designed to bring subconscious thoughts and emotions to the paper, in a combination of art and psychology). It’s on Saturday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to noon, and costs $30.

IMPACT Parkinson’s is at 103-450 East Columbia St. in Sapperton. To register for any of the sessions, call 604-525-2631 or email info@impactparkinsons.com. See www.impactparkinsons.com for more information.
