Belcarra Mayor Neil Belenkie was serving with the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department when he remembers the village ran out of water while crews battled a house fire. He recently told the Tri-City News he fears a house fire in his community could quickly spread into the forest and start a wildfire.

The Village of Belcarra shouldn't get a penny of infrastructure grant from the provincial government to expand its water reservoir until construction has started on the sewer connection for the Anmore Green Estates community.

For almost three years the health of students of Heritage Woods school has been at risk from septic field leakage onto the playing field. The immediate well-being of students is being ignored as School District 43 puts a financial squeeze on the strata.

I appreciate that the Village of Belcarra is at increasing risk of wildfire due to global atmospheric warming. However, there are mitigation and adaptation actions that Belcarra residents can take to prevent forest fires and to minimize the damage in the event of a fire.

The provincial minister of the environment needs to order the parties to meet with a mediator to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement that will allow construction of a sewer line connection for Anmore Green Estates.
