Marine biologist Sheila Byers of the Marine Life Sanctuaries Society will give a presentation on the ancient glass sponge reefs of Howe Sound at Parkgate library on Sunday at 1 p.m. B.C.’s glass sponge reefs have been called one of the great wonders of the  ocean. These rare reefs, which are thousands of years old, are composed of living sponges and their fragile skeletons.

You and five of your best plants are invited to Presentation House Theatre tomorrow, where the second Plant Swap + Shop is running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn how to make a moss pole, swap plants, and purchase others. Visit the event’s webpage for more information.

The Lynn Valley Elementary Parent Advisory Council is hosting its annual pumpkin patch tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year in addition to the pumpkin patch, other family-friendly activities include carnival games, Cook Shack by the Lynn Valley Lions, Treat Café, a costume sale, a craft table, and many great bouncers.

North Vancouver City Library is hosting a by-donation Shred-it! Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Queen Mary Elementary’s parking lot. People are invited to bring their personal documents for safe disposal.
