The North Shore came up golden on both the boys and girls sides in the annual No Regrets Basketball Tournament played Thursday through Saturday at several local schools.

On the girls side the St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints took the title with a 64-52 win over Argyle in an all-North Shore final, while the Handsworth Royals won the boys tournament for the second year in a row, defending their title with a 64-61 win over Prince Rupert’s Charles Hays Rainmakers.

It was the second year in a row that the Royals battled the Rainmakers in the boys final, held Saturday night at Collingwood School. Handsworth raced out to a 34-23 halftime lead, but Charles Hays fought all the way back, spurred by a 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter. A massive three-pointer from Tyler Jones gave the Rainmakers a one-point lead with 30 seconds left in the game, but Marko Stojslavevic replied for the Royals, knocking down a three to retake the lead and give the win to Handsworth.

George Horn of the Royals was named tournament MVP while Stojslavevic earned a first-team all-star spot and Handsworth’s Robert Lutman earned a spot on the second all-star team.

On the girls side STA was too much to handle for the Pipers, led by the powerful frontcourt duo of Jessica Clarke and Gemma Cutler. Clarke, who has committed to play NCAA ball next year at Washington State, was named MVP, while Cutler earned all-star honours. Argyle’s Holly Brewer and Gabby Francis also earned all-star honours.
