Local events educate budding tech entrepreneurs

Opened in Burnaby in 2017, i-onCONNECT Technologies is a unique tech hub founded by entrepreneurs David Dueck and Michael Weston in partnership with Ernest Daddey, its Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer. Unlike other tech hubs in the Lower Mainland, which provide only office space or support for aspiring inventors and entrepreneurs, i-onCONNECT Technologies combines the two in a state of the art 26,000-square-foot space.

In addition to providing business plan guidance, a tech lab where inventors can work on projects, and marketing support, the organization also hosts a number of outreach events to educate budding entrepreneurs and inventors. These include bi-weekly lunch-and-learns every two weeks as well as meetups. There are also monthly programs covering topics such as investor readiness, market validation, venture acceleration, as well as product and business development. These programs run for seven hours (with a one-hour break for lunch). Finally, Pecha Kucha-style events called 10-20-30 CONNECT take place at i-onCONNECT Technologies head office every two months. Originating in Japan, PechaKucha (the Japanese word for chit-chat) is a fast-paced multi-speaker presentation style where 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each.

Kayte Gyles, Marketing and Communication Coordinator at i-onCONNECT Technologies, is excited about the knowledge that the events will offer the community. She says: “Through our events, we embrace collaboration and empowerment for our clients and want them to have access to shared knowledge and information by connecting them to speakers and mentors. These events will focus on varied topics that will support business owners, stakeholders and our community to help them experience accelerated growth and reach their full potential.”
