"One of our most popular advertising campaigns is 'Dine Around the World on North Road,'" says Carolyn Orazietti, Executive Director of the Burnaby North Road Business Improvement Association (BIA). "We highlight our top pick of restaurants on North Road and share that information with the community.”

The campaign is just one of the ways that the Burnaby North Road Burnaby BIA showcases the area's numerous restaurants. The BIA district is home to award-winning Korean and Asian restaurants as well as Persian and Western food.

"We have upwards of 25 international eateries here on North Road," Carolyn explains. "Concert Music Garden Café on the lower level of the Korean Mall, for example, features live music every Saturday night. Or maybe you'd prefer Donair Ville for some Middle Eastern Food."

And it doesn't stop there. Fancy some sushi or Japanese dishes? Jejudo Japanese Cuisine can handle that request. Or stop in at the Standing Egg Coffee shop for a double latte featuring milk and vanilla ice cream to go with a delicious cake or pastry.

"Each of our restaurants puts their own spin on delicious culinary treats," says Carolyn, "so it could take you several visits to North Road before you nail down your favourite spot to eat."

Don't have time to sit and eat? Carolyn points out there are options there, too.

"Stop by Hanna's charming pancake cart outside the plaza and get a sizzling hot, sweet bean cake to go."

The locally well-known Han Nam Market can supply all the fixings to make your own culinary treats if you love to cook and want to try your hand creating your own signature dish.

"The beauty of coming down to the Korean district," Carolyn points out, "is that there are so many amazing shops here too. You can get your daily shopping done and be close enough to pop in for some Kim chi or Bibimbap. But save your appetite, because all our restaurants serve generous portions."

Shopping local is a phrase you'll hear often from Carolyn and the Burnaby North Road BIA.

"We're always preaching that people should shop and eat locally," says Carolyn. "If you're shopping local, you're probably supporting a family down your own street that has a small business here. If you redirect just $50 of your shopping or dining budget each month, you can do a lot to support local businesses and help them thrive for the benefit of all."
