Coquitlam’s Brittany Timko Baxter has been named to the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Centennial secondary school, Timko Baxter played made 132 international apperances with Canada’s national women’s soccer team. She played in three FIFA women’s World Cup tournaments and she was part of the side that won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.
In a post on Twitter, Timko Baxter called the call to the hall "surreal," adding "my 5-year-old self never imagined going into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame."
Timko Baxter also excelled at the youth level. She was the BC Soccer youth player of the year in 2002 and Sport BC’s junior athlete of the year in 2003. She won silver at the FIFA U19 women’s world championship in 2002 and she was awarded the Golden Boot as the top scorer at the FIFA U19 women’s world championship in 2004 that was played in Thailand. She scored seven goals in four matches.
At the club level, Timko Baxter played for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ women’s side for three seasons, as well as club teams in Australia, Sweden, and Germany. She ended her playing career in 2014 with the Seattle Sounders Women in the W-League.
Timko Baxter is still active in the sport, though, as she’s the head coach for girls’ soccer with the Port Moody Soccer Association.
Also named to the hall was former goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc.
