The Coquitlam Express wrapped up its eight-game homestand Sunday the same way they started it — and every game in between as a matter of fact — with a win.
The Express defeated the Wenatchee Wild, 4-2, extending the team’s home ice winning streak this season to 19 games.
After spotting the Wild a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, Coquitlam scored two unanswered goals in the second period and another in the third.
Connor Gregga led the offence with two goals and an assist while Jack Watson stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the Express net.
The win followed a similar script to Coquitlam’s 4-1 victory Friday over the Trail Smoke Eaters.
The visitors had an early 1-0 lead but the Express tied in late in the first period then added two goals in the second and another in the third.
Express goalie Clay Stevenson stopped 17 shots to win his 20th game against only two losses.
Since bunking down at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex Nov. 16, the Express outscored visitors 33-15. Sunday's victory also matched the team's total for all of last season — 28 — and extended its lead in the BC Hockey League’s overall standings to five points over the Penticton Vees.
Coquitlam hits the road for the first time in almost a month with a pair of games this weekend in Prince George, then returns home next Wednesday for a special midweek nooner against the Spruce Kings.
