The Coquitlam Adanacs spotted the Okotoks Raiders a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into their opening round game at the Minto Cup junior national lacrosse championship Friday, then never trailed again en route to an 11-9 win.

While the Adanacs dominated on the shot clock, 64-37, over the Rocky Mountain Junior A Lacrosse League champions, they were never able to open a lead of more than two goals, and four times the Raiders were able to battle back from deficits to tie the score.

"It wasn't our best game," Coquitlam assistant coach Jason Bishop admitted. "We just want to learn from our experience and get better."

The Adanacs, who are defending Minto Cup champions, had a 5-4 lead at the end of the first period and they were up 9-8 after two periods.

Okotoks tied it seven minutes into the final frame before late goals 2:40 apart by Reid Bowering and Thomas Semple sealed the win for Coquitlam.

Semple finished the game with two goals and three assists, while his brother, Max, also had a five-point night — all of them assists. Haiden Dickson scored three times and was the Adanacs' player of the game.

Nate Faccin, the BC Junior A Lacrosse League’s goalie of the year, stopped 28 shots.

Coquitlam next faces the Ontario champions, Orangeville Northmen, Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre. The Northmen handled the Victoria Shamrocks, 12-1, in Friday’s early game.
