Coquitlam residents will get a chance to weigh in on two towers proposed for Burquitlam during a public hearing Monday evening at city hall.

The buildings are part of a development proposed by Boffo Developments Ltd. that, if approved, would be located between Farrow Street and North Road. The project consists of one 46-storey market tower containing 348 units and one 20-storey rental tower with 134 purpose-built rental units and 21 non-market rental units.

According to a city staff report, the site is located 200 metres from the Burquitlam SkyTrain station and is consistent with other high-density residential apartment projects in the area.

In order to make room for the new buildings, three existing buildings will have to be torn down, including a three-storey, 45-unit rental building at 720 Farrow St.

According to a staff report, Boffo has committed to providing current tenants with priority placement for vacancies in other buildings. The developer has also told the city it has established a tenant support office on site and will assist residents with finding new housing.

Two stratified condo buildings also exist on the site but a staff report stated that 100% of the unit owners approved the sale of the property to the developer.

The Burquitlam project is not the only item on Monday's Coquitlam council public hearing agenda.

Residents can also voice their opinions on a five-storey, 51-unit apartment building proposed for the 800-block of Gauthier Avenue.

As well, council will consider a Heritage Revitalization Agreement that would see a heritage home at 433 Marmont St. relocated and replaced with a two-storey duplex. The fourth item on the public hearing agenda is a revision to the city's tree management policy.
