The Editor,

At last Thursday's Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce all-candidates meeting, there was an allegation that the Port Coquitlam and District Hunting and Fishing Club (PCDHFC) sought to discredit and embarrass one candidate over their gun control stance.

For the record, as a non-profit, PCDHFC cannot advocate in a partisan manner against or for any candidate.

We have had the pleasure of hosting both Liberal candidate Ron McKinnon and Conservative candidate Nick Insley at our facilities to educate and represent our members' interests on the safe and legal pursuits of hunting and target shooting while presenting our own ideas for keeping Canadians safe. At the time videos and photographs were taken openly and publicized in the spirit of engagement.

Like our members, we don't feel it is embarrassing to be seen lawfully shooting firearms and are happy to engage with any community leaders who wish to learn more, even as their parties advocate against the traditions and rights of our members. Our doors are open to this engagement, regardless of how any party wishes to frame the dialogue during this election period.

Keith Loh, President, Port Coquitlam and District Hunting and Fishing Club
