Dani Black's live streamed concert is looking to raise money for the food bank at a time of great need.

A 16-year-old Coquitlam singer-songwriter is set to live stream a socially-distant pop concert to raise money for the food bank.

What began as a an hour-long cul-de-sac concert to entertain her Coquitlam neighbours, has transformed into an Internet event as Dani Black looks to entertain homebound families.

The concert, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, will feature some of Black’s original songs, in addition to some favourite pop and folk tunes. She will be accompanied by her father, the former president and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.

“I wanted to give our neighbourhood something to do for an hour that would be a bit of a reprieve during this stay-at-home period we’re all in right now,” said Black, who placed second in the recent Youth Talent Search BC competition.

“Then I started hearing about the growing number of people who were relying on our local Food Banks because of the virus, and that’s when I thought if we live streamed the show we could turn it into a fundraiser.”

The show will begin live streaming at 4 p.m. on Instagram, accessed through Black’s profile @daniblack.music. Anyone looking to donate to the food bank can do so through a GoFundMe campaign found here.

“Every dollar we raise will go to the Food Bank, and we have also received pledges to match the dollars raised on GoFundMe, so any donations will multiply,” said Black in a press release.

“Staying home is tough enough, but staying home without enough to eat is hard for most of us to imagine, but it’s happening right here and I hope this show can help out.”
