When kids find a new passion they want to share it – and they’re encouraged to do so at Coquitlam Skating Club.

The club, established more than 50 years ago at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex, takes pride in its young skaters as they develop, and gives them the opportunity to share that pride and passion with children starting out.

“Junior coaches are an important component of our club.  The experience they earn sharing their passion of figure skating with younger skaters is very beneficial in their own personal growth.  Developing life skills is a huge part of what we as a club stand for, ” says Yolanda Leggiadro, Office Manager of Coquitlam Skating Club.

Our Junior coaches are former and current highly successful figure skaters whom, themselves, learned to skate as youngsters with the Coquitlam Skating Club, in the Canskate program.  Each junior coach is certified through Skate Canada’s highly acclaimed coaching program, as well as being first aid certified.

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship ‘Learn to Skate” program for school aged children.  The program teaches the fundamentals for figure skating, hockey, speed skating and ringette.

Junior coaches are handpicked by senior staff by meeting the criteria needed to be a successful Junior coach.  Yolanda mentions that “These young coaches are dedicated and passionate about sharing the love of their sport.”

The Coquitlam Skating Clubis located at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex at 633 Poirier St. For more information on the CanSkate program and the club’s junior coaches, contact the club by email or check out their website.
