BC Greens’ Tri-Cities meeting moves online due to pandemic

The BC Green Party isn’t going to let a little thing like a global pandemic get in the way of politics.

It announced Friday it would still hold its annual general meeting for the Tri-Cities next weekend — but virtually.

“Due to COVID-19,” said a press release, “all meetings have been moved to digital video conferencing and we are excited to offer the same for our AGM.”

The Tri-Cities AGM will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 5 using the digital video conferencing service Zoom. (Previously, it was to be held at Coquitlam Public Library’s City Centre branch. Due to the pandemic, all Tri-City libraries have been closed and the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, has banned large gatherings.)

The online Green meeting will feature two guest speakers: Jonina Campbell, deputy leader of the BC Greens; and James Marshall, author of What Does Green Mean?, a book about Green parties and political ideas around the world.

Prospective participants in the virtual meeting are asked to RSVP here.

And the Zoom link for the meeting is here.

Participants will have to download the Zoom app onto their browser, then input a screen name that is identifiable to the meeting host to verify party membership. During the meeting, said the release, when the returning officer calls for voters to raise their hands, party members will click on the “raise hand” feature in for their votes to be counted.
