Business Excellence Awards: Chimo gets Association of the Year

Chimo Community Serviceswas established in 1973 to provide emotional support and practical assistance to people in Richmond experiencing personal crises in their everyday lives.

Today, Chimo has grown into a multi-service organization housing 10 distinct programs to serve a diverse, multicultural community and support people to make sound choices; to address inevitable life challenges and crises, and to imagine, create, and sustain their own healthy future.

Chimo’s success is greatly attributed to its strong base of 240 volunteers and 15 interns. They are the lifeblood of the organization.

With a professional staff of 23 and a contingent of 240 professionally trained volunteers, Chimo supported 16,600 clients in crisis last year in 12 language. 

In addition, their staff and volunteers delivered over 200 classes and programs on suicide prevention, partner abuse, life skills and leadership in Richmond high schools.
