Local society takes over the keys to Peter's express bus

The wheels on Peter’s Bus go round and round, and those wheels just became shinier

Over the past four years, Peter has made the daily commute of hundreds of islanders a happier day. Now, his days will be happier too. On Aug. 1, Peter King officially handed over the commuter bus service to the Bowen Island Transportation Society (BTS).  Since the day he started the express bus, Peter has provided incredible service and shortened the daily commute by at least an hour, and his warmth and friendliness has helped to create the community of commuters and has made the long trek to town, well, almost fun.

With the rough mechanical breakdown period in the summer of 2018 and faced with the potential loss of Peter and his great service, a group of commuters created the BTS a non-profit society with the mission to maintain and enhance the transportation offers and services for Bowen Islanders with the end goal of improving the quality of life for the whole Island Community.

Throughout winter, plans were made with Peter to create a lasting solution.  And on Aug 1, that solution became a reality and the BTS officially took over stewardship of the commuter bus service.  As part of the plan, a larger bus has been leased and an additional driver hired to support Peter.  This will service the expanding number of users (yay – seats for all) and help Peter get his life back (yay – get the chore list done).

Overall this is a win-win situation and a great example of what Islanders can do when they work together!
