Young adults between the ages of 15 and 30 are invited to help stop the spread of invasive species in British Columbia.
The volunteers will work with the Invasive Species Council of BC Healthy Habitats, and will be able to learn from training and leadership opportunities, develop their current skills and gain hands-on work experience in areas such as event planning, outdoor fieldwork, communications and project management.
Volunteers will also gain knowledge of the issues relating to local invasive species – such as giant hogweed (which can be found around Richmond) and the Japanese beetle – and how to help support healthy habitats.
They will also be invited to ISCBC’s 2020 forum, which will take place in Richmond. Here, the volunteers will plan for the future sustainability of the province’s communities and landscapes.
Youth volunteers will work in teams to plan, and put into action, activities that support healthy habitats free of invasive species. Volunteers can adopt a local park, school yard or trail; organize local community events; create social media videos; clean up and restore green spaces, beaches and waterways; and develop activities and awareness campaigns to reach out to their communities.
Participants must be located in the Greater Vancouver, Kamloops and Williams Lake areas, and be either Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have been granted refugee status in Canada.
