Open letter to Richmond residents,

Every evening, in all kinds of weather, I take a walk around my block. Tonight, I started out at No. 1 Road, heading east to Railway Avenue, walking on the north side of the street.

Not one person had shoveled their sidewalk.

These are million dollar homes. Surely they can afford a shovel or hire someone to clear their snow.

The City of Richmond posted this statement: “In April 2017, Bylaw 5870 was amended to improve safety and convenience for pedestrians.

“Residential (single-family and multi-family) owners/occupants are now required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their properties.”

If someone were to fall and sustain an injury there very well could be legal ramifications for property owners.

For everyone’s safety, please shovel your sidewalks.
