Liberal Carla Qualtrough continues to widen her lead as almost half the polls in Delta have reported in Monday’s federal election.

Qualtrough just spoke with supporters at her campaign headquarters in North Delta, telling them that Global, CTV and News 1130 have all declared her the winner.

Qualtrough hugged her children and husband as cheers of “Carla, Carla, Carla” rang out throughout the room.

With 85 of 189 polls reporting, the incumbent has a 1,600-vote lead over Tanya Corbet of the Conservatives.

Qualtrough has 41 per cent of the vote compared to 34 per cent for Corbet.

NDP candidate Randy Anderson-Fennell is far back in third with 15 per cent of the vote.

As the TV screen in Qualtrough’s election night headquarters showed the first results of the night for Delta, a huge cheer erupted throughout the room. Qualtrough was seen smiling and clapping with supporters and was very optimistic of a great outcome.

Big cheers also went up at Liberal headquarters on Scott Road after TV stations called People’s Party Leader Maxime Bernier going down to defeat and equally big cheers when Justin Trudeau was re-elected in his Quebec riding.
