One of the problems of having B.C.’s largest university adjacent to some of Canada’s most expensive homes is that student housing is a pain to find.  
Dunbar, one of the closest residential neighborhoods to the University of B.C., has perfected the symbiotic residential relationship known as the basement suite. Students get a relatively cheap rental, while longtime residents can have a little extra money to put towards the mortgage.  
Breanna Walker, a University B.C. student studying kinesiology, lives in a suite in the 3800 block of West 18th avenue. It’s a cozy spot — despite its low ceilings and shortage of natural light.
