Open letter to school community,

On behalf of the Board of Education, we would like to thank our students, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff for their hard work, cooperation and support this year.

The past three months have been a challenge for all of us as we have had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our options have been limited, and at times challenging to implement, but together we worked through them and made the best of our situation.

Special recognition goes  to senior staff. Their leadership, cooperation and teamwork has guided us through this difficult time. Their commitment to our students and the district is why we believe Richmond to be, “the best place to learn and lead.”

To the Graduating Class of 2020, we are disappointed that they did not get to experience graduation as previous graduation classes have. But the gracious manner in which they have dealt with this adversity is a demonstration of their maturity and resilience. Like their parents and teachers, we are proud of our graduating students and wish them the best for the future.

Next September, some staff will not be returning as they will have retired. We regret that we could not honour them with our traditional Retirement Dinner, but please know that we are extremely appreciative for their many years of service to our district. They have made a difference — and will be missed.

As many of you begin your summer holidays, we hope you can find the time to rest and relax, be with family and friends and enjoy all that our city and province has to offer. But most of all, please be safe.

Ken Hamaguchi

CHAIRPERSON, RICHMOND BOARD OF EDUCATION
