A familiar destination to dine out in the very heart of Richmond has a whole new look and a new name. The restaurant at the Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel is now known as 75 West Coast Grill. But while the name and surroundings have changed with contemporary design and more informal settings, some of the previous lounge and restaurant’s (The American Grille and Lotus Lounge) much-loved menu items remain, making for a perfect blend of contemporary cuisine and old favourites.

“It was a place with a wonderful following, but it had its time, and now we have this wonderful place that opens up with the bar facing the lobby, a new spacious lounge area and dining room that is bright, comfortable and has wonderful views of this vibrant corner of Richmond,” said the hotel’s general manager, Yannick Simović.

In keeping with the rest of the hotel’s complete makeover, 75 West, as it is known in short to reflect its address (7571 Westminster Highway), the design is contemporary west coast with plenty of contrasting earthy tones reflected in the furniture and tables to mimic the natural surroundings.

It’s also designed to offer the opportunity in the lounge area for more informal use, with communal tables and relaxed seating arrangements - which can be re-arranged depending on the size of a group - that still allow power and data connectivity to keep visitors in touch.

“This is a very popular part of the hotel,” Simović said. “It’s vibrant at all hours of the day. It’s modern, and the food is just excellent in the restaurant.”

To complement the casual dining atmosphere, the menu has a selection of new, shared plates to encourage a family-style vibe that include lamb chops, Manchego potato croquettes and fried cauliflower and Brussel sprouts.

Add that to some previous mainstays, such as baby back ribs and wild BC salmon, plus a selection of local beers from Steveston’s Brittania Brewing Company, and you have a dining location that uniquely captures the local character visitors from near and far will appreciate.

“We carry seven of Britannia’s beers in the bar, some of which have some wonderfully original flavours, like their Sirens Chai Saison,” Simović said. “And they help to tell the local story.”
