A 15-year-old boy riding a bike was struck by a car in an apparent hit-and-run incident in Richmond’s Terra Nova neighbourhood on Monday night.
At around 11:30 p.m., police were called to the Terra Nova shopping centre at Westminster Highway and No. 1 Road after a report of a cyclist being struck.
The cyclist, a 15 year old boy from Richmond, was taken to hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a dark-coloured SUV, which fled the scene.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) confirmed that an ambulance responded to a call at 11:34 p.m. about a cyclist being struck near Terra Nova’s Save-On Foods.
“An advanced life support paramedic crew was dispatched and one patient was transported to hospital,” said a BCEHS spokesperson.
There is an unconfirmed report from a nearby resident that two bike-riding teenagers were being chased by the car, prior to the incident, and that one of them was dragged under the SUV.
Richmond RCMP said the investigation is still active and they are looking into the possibility that the collision was deliberate.
