If you feel you’ve been wronged by a local or provincial public body or government agency, you’ll have a chance to air your complaints next week.
B.C. Ombusdperson staff will be in Richmond Monday, Feb. 24 to hold an information session at Richmond Caring place on the role, the office’s work and complaints process.
After the event, there’ll be a chance to file a complaint with the Ombudsperson.
“If people want to file an actual formal complaint, we will be in Richmond to take complaints. The best way to (make a complaint) is to make an appointment,” said Sara Darling, a spokesperson for the Office of the Ombudsperson.
“So, people can either go to that public talk and make an appointment to file a complaint, or they can just call our office directly.”
The office, which regularly visits different parts of the province, has jurisdiction over about 1,000 different public sector organizations, said Darling, for example, ICBC, BC Hydro, school districts and hospitals and healthcare services.
“So if they feel they’ve been treated unfairly by virtually entity that’s delivering public services, they can bring their complaints for us,” she said.
Examples of complaints, said Darling, include experiencing very long delays, a person feeling that they aren’t getting answers to their questions or that some policy or procedure is wrong, or that someone may be eligible for benefits and they’ve been denied.
The Ombudsperson event will take place 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 in Room 345/50 at Richmond Caring Place, 7000 Minoru Boulevard.
