The City of Richmond is calling on emerging Musqueam artists to produce a piece of public art for Lansdowne Canada Line station.
The call is put forward by the city’s public art program and Richmond Art Gallery, and is seeking either an emerging Musqueam artist or Musqueam artist collective to produce a large-scale photo installation as part of the Capture Photography Festival Canada Line Public Art Project in April 2020.
According to the Capture 2020 artist call, the selected artist will work with Roxanne Charles, a cultural historian and artist from Semiahmoo First Nation, to produce their work.
Charles works with visual art, oral history and ceremony, and documents issues including spirituality, identity, urbanization, food security and resource extraction.
The successful artist or artist collective — who will be chosen by a panel consisting of Charles and two other Musqueam representatives — will also be awarded an artist fee of $1,500 to produce one or more print-ready digital files.
The costs of production and installation will be provided by the city, which will also manage the art’s installation and maintenance.
Installation of the artwork will take place in March 2020, and will remain at Lansdowne Canada Line station until April 2021.
