Artists from Richmond, across B.C., Yukon and as far away as Romania have submitted artwork inspired by the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Báb for an exhibition this Saturday, Oct. 19.

Being held for only a short time - from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brighouse Library’s atrium - artists of all backgrounds and nationalities have submitted art to mark the occasion, an historic one for the Bahá’í faith.

“The Báb, which means ‘the Gate’ in Arabic, was the herald of a new era in human history,” said Arezou Noureddin, a Richmond artist and curator of the exhibition.

“The Báb prepared the way for the coming of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, whose teachings are guiding humanity to justice, unity, and peace.

“They are considered ‘Twin Luminaries,’ who illumined the horizon of the world.”

Noureddin said it’s going to be interesting because, “it’s not just one style of art. There’s going to be paintings, of course.  And there’s going to be interactive pieces.

“There’s going to be 3D, look-inside kind of art you can explore to see what’s behind the veil. They are all amazing works.”

Many of the artists will be on hand to speak to visitors so they get a first-hand knowledge of what went through the artists’ minds as they created their pieces.

“These are incredible artists and we want people to be exposed to this kind of inspiration, to this kind of awe-inspiring creativity and beauty,” he said.

“We want as many people as possible to come and see it. We’re hoping that by being in the open space of the atrium, people will feel free to just come in, have some sweets and some tea.”

There will be music, live and recorded.
