The holiday season is a time for giving and feasting, but for some, a holiday meal is far from their priority.

Vancouver International Airport teamed-up with Vancouver-based Quest Food Exchange for their ninth annual holiday hamper drive on Thursday, Dec. 5. This year, a total of 1,289 hampers were collected, breaking last year’s record of 1,288.

The hampers, containing meal essentials and festive favouries, are provided for families in need in the Lower Mainland.

For each hamper that was filled, YVR donated a turkey while Quest provided seasonal vegetables.

The hamper drive started in 2011 with over 5,000 hampers having been donated to local families.
