A massive art installation will soon be blossoming along the Gilbert Road Greenway at River and Gilbert Roads.

Called “Wind Flowers,” by artists Atelier Anonymous and Michael Seymour, the art installation will showcase 17 undulating wind-catchers on beds of native plants.

While the piece won’t be fully completed until the fall, a special event on Thursday, May 23 will give the public a chance to meet the artists and other local presenters like Coun. Harold Steves, landscape architect Hanako Amaya and Indigenous youth leader May Point-Shaw.

The event, which will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Hall, will also offer the opportunity to participate in conversations about Richmond’s past, present and future. The event will be in English, with Mandarin and Cantonese translations available.

Atelier Anonymous is a collective of internationally established and award-winning designers, educators and researchers, who explore the intersections of landscape architecture and art.

Michael Seymour is an artist based in Vancouver who uses architecture, film, design and photography.
