A leadership position is not an easy task, but this Richmond teen stepped up to the job.
Richmond resident, Jessica Lo, earned a spot with the leadership team at the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre on Vancouver Island this summer.
The staff cadet was chosen for the Fitness and Sports Instructor course and spent the first week learning advanced leadership skills that is needed to guide younger course cadets on camps lasting between two and six weeks.
“I hope to be able to guide and mentor my cadets this summer so they will be able to take my place as new fitness and sports instructor course staff in the future,” said Lo.
“This is my second year as a staff cadet, and I will make the most of my past experience to make this summer memorable for the cadets under my command.”
She decided to join 655 Richmond Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in 2013 after her parents encouraged her to meet new friends and take on challenges.
Lo plans to study science at the University of British Columbia in the upcoming fall.
Albert Head Cadet Training Centre is a training ground on Vancouver Island and welcomes around 1,000 cadets in July and August for summer camps each year.
Throughout the summer, cadets participate in two to six-week camps such as general training, basic aviation technology and aerospace, fitness and sports instructor, survival and band.
The cadet program focuses on leadership, citizenship and healthy living, and is open to all youths between the ages 12 to 18.
