M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi School of Islamic Sufism, a global non-profit organization, donated 70 care packages to Richmond Hospital’s Pediatric Unit in celebration of Eid al-Adha.

A total of 500 care packages, which included school supplies, custom colouring books, stickers and hand-sewn masks, were delivered to 15 different youth-organizations, schools and families across Greater Vancouver.

Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest festivals of the year, is known as a “time of pilgrimage, charity and community” and the group is focusing on helping children this year.

According to the MTO School of Sufism, the purpose of the initiative is to give children a “sense of empowerment” during stressful periods like COVID-19.

“During this difficult time, many children have been left with feelings of uncertainty and anxiety,” they said, adding that many children have “witnessed their parents lose their livelihood, businesses or jobs.”

MTO volunteers have organized various food drives for low-income families and donated thousands of personal protective equipment to frontline workers since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
