West Vancouver’s Tim Mason won eight straight games to claim the provincial men’s singles lawn bowling title at the B.C. championships held recently at the New Westminster Lawn Bowling Club.

The win earned Mason a spot in the Canadian Championships scheduled for Aug. 26-30 in Kitchener, Ont.

Mason is a frequent winner on the provincial scene, having claimed at least one B.C. title in each of the past seven years, however this is his first outdoor singles title.

“It was a pretty special and busy week for me as I was recently back home in Penetanguishene [Ontario] where my family and I held my mother’s annual charity tournament,” said Mason. “Then to jump on a plane and compete right away and win is pretty great as I get the chance to represent B.C. in the province where I grew up.”

This is the second year that Mason and his family have organized a charity tournament in Midland, Ont., which sees friends and families that have not played the sport before get on the greens to raise money for a worthy cause. In two years they have raised over $14,000 which is donated to the building of the new Hospice Huronia which is a facility that is designed to offer comfort to individuals and loved ones who are experiencing life-threatening illness. The facility has recently broken ground in the Penetanguishene/Midland area.

West Van Lawn Bowling Club member Jim Duholke finish fourth at provincials to also earn a berth in the Canadian Championships.

The North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club will be hosting the B.C. Provincial Pairs Championships July 26-28.
