Clark de Boer to be honoured on soccer pitches across the North Shore

Moment of silence this weekend for longtime coach and volunteer

Soccer players across the North Shore will all share a moment of silence before their games this weekend in honour of a man who worked tirelessly to keep the sport kicking for decades.

Clark de Boer, who was diagnosed with esophogal cancer in early 2018, died Sept. 14 due to complications related to his lengthy illness. He was 64.

de Boer was a fixture on the North Shore sports scene, a player in his youth who transitioned to coaching at the young age of 18. On top of coaching, he volunteered countless hours as an equipment manager, board member and scheduler for the Mount Seymour soccer club, the North Shore Youth Soccer Association, and, most recently, West Van FC, where he was busy making schedules for the 2019-20 season and collecting and distributing equipment to coaches and managers right up until the day he died.

A memorial service will be held for Clark on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Highlands United Church located at 3255 Edgemont Boulevard in North Vancouver. A reception will follow in the church gym. In lieu of flowers, de Boer’s family suggests a donation in Clark’s honour to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, designated for the chemotherapy unit.
