LETTER: Keith Road 'rat runners' putting neighbourhoods at risk

An open letter to CNV and DNV mayors and councillors:

Another weekday afternoon. Another stream of cars racing down our side street to avoid traffic on Keith Road. This is the third day in a row and it’s only Wednesday.

Yesterday, during the chaos on our street, I took a walk to see how the other side streets in the area were faring; the answer – not much better and perhaps even worse.

The cars south of Keith were speeding through any laneway they could find. The excessive speed and volume of these cars from 3 to 6 p.m. every day is not just annoying but also dangerous to children, animals and parked cars on streets which are not equipped to handle such high volumes.

I urge you to collaborate to implement and enforce new rules (during the afternoon rush hour) forcing left turns from roads south of Keith, and forcing right turns for cars coming from north of Keith.

Clearly the signage at the top of Keith, asking drivers not to take shortcuts, is not working.
