This story has been amended to correct the date of Tanasescu's death.

The Lynn Valley man charged with several offences following a police standoff last winter has died before going to trial.

Alexander Dinu Tanasescu was due in court this week on charges of uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, stemming from a Jan. 10 incident in a home on Lynn Valley Road.

But Tanasescu died on July. 23, according to North Vancouver RCMP. The death is not considered suspicious. He was out on bail at the time and under orders to be living with his sister in Vancouver.

When an accused dies before the conclusion of a trial, the Crown “abates” or abandons the case.
