No roaming grocery aisles aimlessly, thanks to Metro Vancouver app

Todd Matheson has spent half of his life operating North Vancouver’s Yard Surgeons landscaping firm. On a day like any other, filled with long hours spent rolling rocks, raking bark mulch and planting azaleas, Matheson hit upon an idea he believes is better than sliced bread.

In fact, it involves sliced bread as well as thousands of other grocery products and goods sold in supermarkets around Metro Vancouver.

Matheson developed an app called GroceryTime, which helps customers organize their shopping list, customize their experience and prioritize their time in the store.

The program is very simple to navigate too, shoppers just have to log into the app, identify which supermarket they will visit and key in their grocery list to complete the task. The app then prompts users with aisle locations for items at local supermarkets including Save-on Foods, Real Canadian Superstore, Safeway, Thrifty’s and IGA.

On average, the app saves users one-third of the time otherwise spent aimlessly browsing aisles looking for products.

During the pandemic, it is more important than ever to be efficient in public spaces, and that includes supermarkets. Physical distancing can be a challenge when aisles are small and line-ups are queued around the building. With GroceryTime, you can quickly navigate the store and make the process efficient for yourself, as well as for other shoppers.

Are you looking for hollandaise sauce from the Pemberton Plaza Save on Foods? Aisle three. Bacon bits? Aisle seven. Paper? Aisle four.

Matheson is also a walking encyclopaedia of supermarket shelves. When testing his knowledge about where the landscaping supplies can be found in supermarkets he says, “Floral department of most supermarkets,” quick as a wink, “depending on the season.”

With GrocerytTme, you can edit, save and organize your list in any way you need, right in the app while you’re on the go, or at home.

It is quite a neat experience. It almost feels like you are following a treasure map to find your items, and that makes time at the grocery store fun and quick,” Matheson adds. “When I tested it for the first time, I could hardly believe what I had just done. It felt almost like flying in a supermarket, knowing exactly where you’re going to land. I’m excited to share this unique experience with fellow shoppers.”

Save time and have fun—it’s that simple.
