Nine-year-old Cooper Yates has spent his summer collecting recyclables for a good cause.

A few months ago, the young Pemberton Heights resident told his neighbours and friends about his idea for a summer project, which included collecting cans in order to raise money for the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

Each week, Cooper, along with help from his family, would collect people’s cans in his neighbourhood after first asking them to store them away in a big blue bag. Cooper would bring home the bag full of cans, and leave his neighbours with a fresh new recycling bag for the following week.

After doing this regularly throughout the summer and delivering the recyclables to a bottle depot, Cooper was able to raise $2,250 which he recently donated to Lions Gate Hospital.
