The North Shore is a cultural hotspot – especially this weekend. As part of BC Culture Days, multiple neighbourhood hubs in North and West Vancouver will be hosting fun, free events for all ages, including a backstage tour of Hendry Hall theatre tonight at 7 p.m. and an abstract painting workshop for youth at Gleneagles Community Centre tomorrow at 1 p.m. To see many more activities on the North Shore, visit culturedays.ca and search for “North Vancouver” or “West Vancouver.”

There’s fun and there’s fungi just below your feet. Learn about mushroom identification, mushroom names and meanings, fungal ecology, and the uses of different types of mushrooms during a Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre event tomorrow at 1 p.m. The event ($9) is part of the centre’s One Earth Speaker Series, which invites people ages 15 and up to see the world through the eyes of scientists, naturalist, and photographers. The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer are headlining the second iteration of the Shipyards Festival tomorrow on the North Vancouver waterfront. The free event will feature live music and entertainment for all ages spread out over three stages, starting at noon and going strong till 10 p.m. Visit the festival’s website for more information.

Leo Kottke, a Grammy nominee and legendary acoustic guitarist recognized as a master of his instrument, will be forming at the BlueShore at CapU Sunday at 8 p.m. Acclaimed for his fingerpicking style drawing from blues, jazz and folk music roots, tickets ($45-$48) can be purchased here.

Take a trip over town on Sunday for Nardwuar the Human Serviette’s celebratory all-ages show at Commodore Ballroom, starting at 1 p.m. The event, which will feature a meet-and-greet, concert, and video vault, is in honour of the popular West Vancouver media icon’s induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.
