Delta showcased its diverse talent on the final day of this year’s Tsawwassen Sun Festival.

The third annual Delta’s Got Talent competition saw nine performances from youth ages 12 to 19, including a return performance from last year’s grand-prize winner Zoi Weekley, who also was a surprise judge.

“We changed it up a bit this year,” said organizer Jennifer Bach. “We had categories in the past, but this year we decided to have a first, second and third prize with all three getting trophies and cash. Everyone seemed to like that last year – having the previous winner come back to perform and also be a guest judge.”

This year’s first prize winner was Maddison Jose, second prize went to Nicola Schmidt, third prize went to Angelica Gonzalez, and fourth prize went to Grace Edwards.

Twelve year-old Sam also wowed the judges and won most improved, taking home a gift certificate.

Bach said every year they have received a fantastic response for the competition.

“I just received a fabulous thank-you letter the other day from one of the parents of one of the finalists, so that was great to hear and I passed that onto the rest of the team,” said Bach. “Whatever your talent is from singing to dance or musical instruments, or both, everyone is welcome. Last year we had some bands. This year we had a duet.”
Bach said the eight finalists pre-submitted their entries.

“Every year we receive quite a number of entries,” she said. “Definitely the word is out about Delta’s Got Talent. Our judges have encouraged others to come back and we have seen returnees each year. To see how much they have improved year after year is fantastic.”

This year’s judges included Danielle Hamilton, Christine Magee and Weekley.

“Danielle has been our rock all these years. She does so much for music and the arts in the community,” said Bach.
