Re: Macey’s departure concerns member of hospice society, letter to the editor, Oct 3

I’m sorry the Delta Hospice executive director was terminated. The stress of her position and influence to the membership on not allowing MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) may have contributed to the reoccurrence of her illness and I hope she will regain a lasting remission.

I see this as another instance of the church interfering with the state. The two do not go together, nor should they. Like the abortion issue of pro-choice or pro-life, the MAiD issue is similar, except it’s having a choice in death instead of birth.

Since hospice is there to ease the final weeks in one’s life, it’s only logical, and more humane, to allow suffering to end if requested.

Delta Hospice receives funding from government and therefore it needs to abide by the laws of the land. MAiD is legal and I want to have that choice should I need it.

I compel the membership to do the right thing at the upcoming AGM by amending their bylaw to allow MAiD on the premises in future.
