Canadians must vote for stronger military

As the 2019 federal general election gains momentum and as the various political parties proclaim their agendas to the electorate, perhaps it is time to take a good, solid look at just what is on offer across Canada.

Without a doubt the table has been and continues to be set with a potpourri of varying options none of which satisfies the hunger of all citizens equally. It is in that varying that the electorate must look carefully and weigh each offering with diligence and consideration of Canada and not with a self-interest view of what the voter feels is correct; all of Canada saw the mistake in that action in 2015.

Sadly, it appears that many Canadians of voting age either elect not to vote or simply toss darts at a revolving board and support whichever space the thrown dart enters. Such is a very poor way to show support for Canada and thus all Canadians; moreover, by not voting for whatever reason, reveals a deep distrust in Canada and its future over the next term of the fixed election periods.

Such is not what I, and hundreds of thousands of other Canadians, fought for since Confederation. What we volunteered to do was to travel thousands of miles from home and family and spend months or years to stop an evil and to restore democracy to a people who needed our assistance in the most urgent manner; not to have a narcissistic, rich kid, unschooled in reality, cause Canada to be ridiculed worldwide and the worth of our volunteerism and supreme sacrifices trampled upon.

What Canadians have witnessed over the past four years has blemished most severely the sacrifices made by those thousands of Canadians who stepped forward and stated, proudly, Ready, Aye, Ready, and went to war on behalf of all Canadians.

With this election, Canadians have a right and a responsibility to correct a wrong and to restore Canada to its rightful place as a strong middle power country willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with like-minded countries in the pursuit of peace and comfort for all.
