Tsawwassen's Brendan Guraliuk, 19, was one of three players added to the Canadian senior national team for a tour of South America that started with a win over Chile on Wednesday.

While one Tsawwassen field hockey standout continues his rehab process from a serious injury, another is taking advantage of open roster spots to gain valuable experience at the senior international level.

Brendan Guraliuk is among three players added to the Canadian team for a South American tour that began Wednesday with a 3-2 win over Chile. The two sides will meet again and Canada will also play a pair of games against defending Olympic champion Argentina.

Guraliuk, 19, has been a fixture with the junior national men’s program, having played for Canada at the 2018 Youth Olympic Game in Buenos Aires. The midfielder also made his senior international debut that year against China.

He is joined by UBC teammate Sam Cabral and goalkeeper David Vandenboosche as the three players were added to the team for injured players Mark Pearson, David Carter and Jamie Wallace.

Pearson, another Falcons product and SDSS graduate, is on the mend from a ruptured achilles tendon suffered in the gold medal game against Argentina at the Pan American Games back in August.

The 32-year-old is progressing well and is on track to compete in his third Summer Olympic Games.

Pearson, who has 274 international caps to his credit, cheered on from the sidelines back in October when Canada rallied for a dramatic series win against Ireland in the Olympic qualifier in West Vancouver.
