Deltassist has several counselling groups starting in January:

Mindfulness Group (19 years and older)

This is a six-week introduction for those in recovery from substance use, and for those who have been affected by someone else’s substance use.

Group members can join up to the second week, but after that time, new participants will be placed on the list for the next group (date to be determined).

The focus will on stress management, wellness and relapse prevention. Participants are asked to commit to a daily mindfulness practice for the duration of the six-week program, and to completing some homework.

Who can participate: Those in recovery from substance use who are not currently struggling with relapse, and those who have been affected by someone else’s substance use. This group is not recommended for those who are currently struggling with the effects of trauma or psychosis.

This series will run every Tuesday from Jan. 21 to Feb. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

What to bring/wear: A yoga mat, blanket, water and a cushion. (Yoga mats will be provided for people who do not have their own.) Wear comfortable clothing.

Healthy Relationships and Stress Management Group (19 years and older)

Deltassist is offering this 12-week group for anyone 19 years and older and are self-referred. This group will teach participants the skills of effective communication, problem-solving, listening, conflict resolution, impulse control, stress management and coping strategies in relationships that may or may not contain abuse. These groups are for people who have not been charged with or are not currently facing charges related to domestic violence.

This series will run every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. from Jan. 16 to April 2.

The group will be held at the Deltassist office at 9097 Scott Rd.

Making Connections (for woman 19 years and older)

This group is for women who have experienced partner abuse at some point in their lives. Living with abuse and violence can harm both physical and psychological health. Everyone has a right to a safe and healthy relationship that is free from violence and fear. Women will learn about the cycle of abuse, why abuse happens and the impact of abuse both on themselves and the children. They will learn healthier communication skills and self-care techniques. Women who identify as LGBTQ2 are welcome.

This series runs from 5 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday from Feb. 4 to April 7.

Substance Use Education Group (for anyone 19 years or older that has been affected by substance use)

The group is an open drop-in group for adults who have substance use issues themselves, or who are being affected by someone else’s substance use.

This is a drop in program for adults 19 years and older whose lives have been affected by substance use, their own or another person’s.

This series runs every Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Deltassist’s office at 9097 Scott Rd.
