Nine Delta schools are now on Fraser Health’s latest list of COVID-19 exposures.
Here’s the list as of Monday morning:
Brook Elementary Exposure November 13 and 16, 2020
Chalmers Elementary Exposure November 12, 13 and 16, 2020
Delta Secondary Exposure November 9 and 10, 2020
Delview Secondary School Exposure November 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2020
Jarvis Traditional Elementary Cluster November 9, 2020
McCloskey Elementary Exposure November 9 to 20, 2020
North Delta Secondary Exposure November 9, 12 and 13, 2020
Seaquam Secondary Exposure November 12, 13 and 16, 2020
South Delta Secondary Exposure November 9, 2020
An early notification letter, dated Nov. 22, by Fraser Health to Chalmers parents notes an individual who is a confirmed case attended the school and Public Health is following up, but receiving the letter does not mean the family of those receiving the letter have been exposed. The case(s) have been isolated and there is no direct exposure risk at this time, according to FHA.
The health region has initiated contact tracing and is investigating the exposure. The FHA will only contact staff and students that have been identified as needing to self-isolate for 14 days. The health region may send letters to staff and students who will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms, but they can still attend school.
The health region also notes that for privacy reasons it can’t provide details of the exposure.
Meanwhile, the BC Teachers' Federation has started new campaigns in the hope of increasing the use of face masks in classrooms.
The teachers’ union on social media is asking for parents’ to help foster a “culture of mask-wearing.”
“We need to be doing all we can to ensure we keep each other safe. By talking to your children about wearing masks, you can make a big difference,” a Tweet states.
