Delta police is warning residents of a scam targeting Delta residents.
In an afternoon news release on its Facebook page, DPD said officers took two reports Tuesday of a scammer calling Delta residents.
“Each time the scammer claimed to be the woman's grandson, greeting them by saying ‘Hi Grandma,’” said DPD. “The man said he'd just been arrested for trafficking, and needed bail money. He requested the woman to go to the bank and pull out the money, and then Fedex it to another address. In one case the woman took out $12,000, but didn't feel right and stopped by our headquarters to get advice. We counselled her to return the money to the bank, and advised her of this type of scam.
“In the second case (reported literally just minutes later) the alleged grandson asked for $6,000. In that case the woman quizzed her supposed grandson, asking for his mother's name.... which oddly enough he didn't know.
Please share with any older people in your life, who may be vulnerable to this type of scam.”
