After installing the first five red-light cameras in B.C. last year, 20,000 tickets were issued with the fastest car clocked at 174 kilometres per hour in an 80-kilometre zone.

Thirty-five cameras have been installed around the province to catch traffic infractions.

Before the ticket is sent out, the data is reviewed by Intersection Safety Camera officers to confirm whether there was an infraction or not.

The province noted that someone who both speeds and runs a red will get a ticket for both.

The City of Richmond will also be installing traffic cameras at 110 intersections to monitor traffic for safety and traffic management. However, these cameras won’t capture license plates or faces.
